Crónica de un descubrimiento las pinturas rupestres de El Médano, Taltal
This book, edited by Francisco Gallardo, researcher of the museum, accounts for the contributions that notable archaeologist Hans Niemeyer did on the studies of Prehistoric rock art in Chile particularly in the south of the province of Antofagasta. In 1973 Niemeyer started to travel and in his own words was moved to rescue for science the Prehistoric legacy. In his field diaries, Niemeyer narrates that he decided to start this excursion when geologist Guillermo Chong told him of the discovery of the Prehistoric rock art of a special importance in the coast. The exploration voyage was his first and most important archaeological excursion to the cliffs of El Médano, in the locality of Taltal, where he identified and documented a large number of paintings in the rocks that represent the fishing of the Changos, created approximately in the 1st century.
